MESSAGE MONDAYS: Important Convo

Okay, this is going to be short and sweet....in the hood, dorms, and just about anywhere you can find young people probably one of the most popular conversations, if not the most popular, is about rap skills. Now everytime kids discuss this ppl always say its an irrevelant subject. I beg to differ. Its similiar to old women and their book clubs. Besides discussing rappers and their skills is concurrent with discussing current events, history, literary devices, relevance, etc. So let me be the first to say talkin about rap is an important convo. The End.

p.s. Kanye's album drops today...Im not a fan of this album I admit, but it does feature what i believe to be the greatest song Kanye has ever did..check out streetlights

MESSAGE MONDAY: Keep it to yourself...

Okay, for today's message Ima say sometimes you have to keep things to yourself. I know you all thinking thats random but let me explain....

I believe sometimes we mess up opportunities by spilling the beans on it to early...examples...

1.Potential mate...Say you like someone and you see them smile at you or wave at you...or if youre in the beginning of the 'talking' stations with someone.....dont run back telling all your friends..telling your friends give them false hope and make you look into something more than you shouldve...causing you to try to speed up the process or act funny around someone...and end up messing up an opportunity...while your friends keep asking about them because they thought you were further along with that person then you were...

2. Career move...dont let on to career advances unless its already signed and sealed...i'll give an example of me..last year I ran into Andre 3000 at a vegetarian spot on the Southside of ATL..I freestyled for him, he liked it, and since I didnt have a demo on me he told me to give my demo to the owner of the spot because they were cool and he would pick it up...now I did that but Dre never got it because he was out of town for months..I think it was during the time he was filming the movie with Will Ferrell...anyways, I was so excited tho I told like every one I knew...it was out of pure excitement but in retrospect I was falsely implying that I was about to be Andre's protege' and I was ashureshot to be put on...giving my friends false hope that they shouldnt have ever had....

there are other examples but basically my message to yall is to learn to keep it to yourself...

DREADLOCK TUESDAYS: My fave locs....

Okay I told you for the first dreadlock tuesday Im posting my all-time fave male and my all-time fave female with locks....well here they are....

Fave male:
BOB MARLEY

No one has popularized the dreadlock style in the Western hemisphere more than this man and the rastafarian movement of his native Jamaica. His locks were a symbol of his spirituality and it will forever be attached to his music and the love he ws trying to spread.

Fave female:
ASSATA SHAKUR

She is one of the most strong willed as well as one of the most beautiful woman to grace this earth. Her story is a remarkable story stapled in American history. I can only believe that her choice to grow her locks were an extension of 'the cause' and grounded in her love of anything Africana.

MESSAGE MONDAYS: World On Our Shoulders

...okay..I wanted to make a vlog..and I shouldve posted earlier but anyway...

I know everyone is still beaming off the fact that our president is black (or rather mulatto.) Yet, I think black people are taking this the wrong way in a couple of ways...'

1. I think there are a lot of black ppl whom feel like things will be easier and they wont have to work hard JUST because our presidents black...WRONG!!! What you fail to realize is a black president deletes every excuse a black person has for not working hard. The whole thing of affirmative action goes out the window because how are you going to say that a job is being racist by not hiring you when the country this job is located in had hired a black man for the highest position in the land?? Also, you know how black ppl tend to model some of their actions because 'white folks' do it?? You know, like use white folks tendencies as an example when theyre trying to do better as far as raising kids, work, school, interviews, etc...well, that comes from belief that white folks worked hard to be successful so we had to watch them to get successful..Well, with a black man as president, the black man will begin to be looked at as a symbol of success. So our actions will be closely watched because other ethnicities want to see how we made it to the highest position. Therefore, we have to work harder to lead those who are watching us...

2. I also think ppl believe a black man as our president is our savior. Like all we have to do was vote the savior in and watch him perform his black magic. What they fail to realize is in order for the country to get back to a good place is for everyone to change and for everyone to put focus on the better good of the country. Obama cant do it alone....remember his motto was 'Yes We Can!' not 'Yes I Can'...also, know that he's not a savior so there will not be an immediate change..as drastic as the state of our country is there will be a gradual change if change is to happen...not an immediate one...

Keep this in mind, my obamas...

(P.s. no more calling ppl 'my niggas' or saying 'wassup nigga' or 'that nigga..' Dipset tryna start a new movement by replacing the phrase 'nigga' with 'Obama'..I, myself dont use the word nigga except when explaining why I hate the word. Yet, I dig the movement...I mean its silly but its better than the 'no homo' movements and rockstar look movements Dipset started...so yea...All my obamas get with it ya digg....)
